Description

This is a hand forged straight pein hammer from Brandon Dearing. The design was inspired by Swedish cross pein hammers, with graceful curves and a good balance on both sides.

Straight pein hammers excel at aggressively drawing out steel along its length, and you can draw the steel out in different directions depending on the angle you hold your hammer.
These hammers are forged from 1045 steel, heat treated, and tempered. The handles are carved from American hickory, and then finished with a Purpleheart wedge.

The hammer handle is contoured to fit the hand and is forged with a thicker pein than what’s available in most mass produced models.

The eye is drifted from both ends to produce an hourglass double taper that gives a tight fit on to the handle.
The face and pein are sanded to a smooth, satin 120 grit finish, and then buffed to a semi-polished semi-satin finish.

The edges are all dressed so it’s ready to forge with as soon as soon as you are.
Both the handle and head are soaked in boiled linseed oil to help achieve a tight fit, give the wood a smooth finish, and protect the steel from rust.
