Description
This is a hand forged Bladesmithing/Blacksmithing flatter by Brandon Dearing. It's an invaluable tool for smoothing out your forging projects and it really helps enhance the appearance of the piece you're forging.
The head is forged from three and a half pounds of 1045 steel, the face had been heat treated and tempered, while the struck end has been left soft to mitigate chipping. The dimensions of the working surface are roughly 3”x3” x 3/4 thick, which help ensure that this tool will last for years of work.
If you're unfamiliar with struck tools, the head is friction fit unto the handle. This helps the handle last longer, and you can take it off easily to change out the handles, dress any mushrooming of the struck end, or clean up the face.
The handle is made from white oak, and the wood and steel are coated with several coats of linseed oil.
The face comes dressed and ready to use.
